Position Description

New client who are experiencing dynamic growth.

This is a unique position it combines Process Control with Safety. The controls part is they key. The main function of the role is keep their many plants with their safety systems initiatives.

Using their DCS and PLC’s this person will they will integrate their SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) to do things like auto shut of plants or units.

Travel is about 40% they can work from home or their corp hq in Jackson MS

Overview:

The Process Control and Safety Systems Leader will provide overall leadership, professional knowledge, and expertise for this company’s corporate-wide process control and safety system initiatives.

The position will be responsible for developing innovative solutions for evolving standards and ensuring excellence with applicable regulations and corporate standards.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain  Corporate process control and safety systems guidelines, policies, processes, and procedures for all operating facilities (PSM, RMP, and non-regulated)
  • Maintain close working relationship with business unit process safety, operations, maintenance, and engineering leads to assure an ongoing dialog, so that programs meet the intended requirements.
  • Develop and track appropriate process control / safety system KPI’s and communicate on a regular basis to business unit and senior management teams.
  • Report regularly to senior management on potential risk, compliance status, and impacts of new regulations.
  • Participate in incident investigations for significant process control / safety system related events and share lessons learned
  • Provide technical support and assistance to all companies to aid in the development, implementation, and maintenance of process control and safety systems and programs necessary to insure safe and efficient operation.
  • Participate in AFPM/API’s Advancing Process Safety Initiative.
  • Assess and develop process control and safety system competencies across the company
  • Develop and lead corporate trainings for process control and safety system topics including one-on-one mentoring, if required
  • Lead Operational Excellence process control initiatives and participate on assessment teams
  • Share lessons learned from industry and site events, align with process safety best practices, and benchmark where applicable.
  • Identify, track, and report lagging metrics, such as API 754 Tier III and Tier IV leading metrics.
  • Facilitate communication, efficient use of resources, consistency of practices, and cooperation between facilities.

Education and Qualifications:

Appropriate candidates to fill this role will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Safety or Industrial Hygiene. A Master's degree is preferred.

Candidate will have the following additional qualifications:

  • 10+ years' experience in health and safety management related to petroleum refining, petrochemical manufacturing, or petroleum storage and transportation, is desired. This should include previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager or Director on a Corporate Level.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, consultative, and influencing skills
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA and related hazardous materials standards, and petroleum related industry best practices
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and solid analytical/problem solving ability
  • Able to travel extensively (estimated 40%)
  • Preferred candidates will have one or more professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar health and safety credential

Education:

BS Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Safety Engineering (or similar); advanced degree preferred

Work Experience:

  • Process Control / Safety Systems Lead experience, preferably 8-10 years.
  • Active member of industry organizations such as AFPM and/or CCPS.
  • Ten years in refinery/chemical operations and/or engineering

Special Skills/Knowledge:

  • Have a passion and drive to start new initiatives
  • Extensive knowledge of process control and safety system engineering standards and best practices
  • Extensive experience working with process control and safety control systems including PLC, SCADA, DCS, I/O modules, field devices, and final control elements.
  • Experience with device selection and verification to meet  IPL requirements
  • Experience with Alarm Rationalization and HMI optimization
  • Experience participating in PHAs, LOPAs and other risk management methods
  • Experience with auditing safety programs
  • Experience in participation on incident investigations and sharing lessons learned.
  • Experience in managing system changes through MOC/PSSR program
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Information documentation
  • Ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with facility personnel. Provide a positive role model by performing tasks in line with thier Core Values.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to achieve process safety goals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate status, progress, and goals to Senior Management
